British Columbia is known for its impressive scenery, however the province also has a remarkable cultural side with many communities. To understand and learn about how the province once was, and why the inhabitants are the way they are it is a smart move to get deeper into the cultural history. To start your cultural journey we strongly reccomend you to visit some of the spectacular totem poles. These totem poles were carved by first Nations' people and they can be found in many coastal communities. Totem poles were -and for some people still are- of spiritual significance to the original inhabitants. Besides preserving their art, they capture the living spirit of the tree to tell the history of their legends and tribal families. Ask the natives about the totem poles, you will find that they are exceptionally friendly, as well as willing to tell you everything they know.
